Elk Mountain

I can't just
take these coyote

teeth,
split down the center,

and make
them into a necklace.

The skull is fragmented.

The Birder

My head is spinning around
trying to find the damn bird book.

What is this hawk!?

Twenty Something

You walk the crescent
moon of a Michigan road,

lunar thresher.

The fabric of fields,
the body of a coyote,

a deer perhaps
floating in the spoon

of a small lake.

Will skeletons rise
to greet you?

Cut a hole in the ice.

The Monsters

because I told her I liked her brain--

We were nervous animals.
