Moveable Feast
reflection
in the wet
street. oak
hangs dreaming.
the hint
of a flower,
two lips
aching.
spring is born
with its
eyes closed,
a dark
lady's kiss.
the kids
chase rabbits.

Megabytes
Sometimes I forget
chapters of my life.
I might dwell on
when my friend Eric
and I pushed each other
downtown in a box
mounted to a skateboard.
Everyone drank Coke
out of glass bottles.
For a moment,
all I can remember
is the glass bottles
and the grimy
back alleyways,
my bare feet
black as the streets
and hard like leather.
Then, it dawns on me
how ten years later
I dug a pit beneath
a twisted old pine bush
and traded in my freshman
year of high school
for something closer to earth.
I built a lot of fires
and spent more time with animals.
I felt more centered
in the star map of night.
Then, I remember
the summer of 2006.
I took my video camera
everywhere and documented everything.
When you crashed your Mustang
I just stared at the stars
until I forgot every chapter
we ever lived together.
Spring Clothes
If I jerk my
elbows back
just right
my chest cavity
will crack open.
My epithelial
slides down
around my ankles.
I have really
chipped off the slag
this time.

Deltoids
I wish
I could make
more
Hamiltonian circuits
in my life.
Saturday
is no problem.
I always
check the square
footage of my
toilet paper.
I have three fish
that live in three
separate tanks.
I feed them
so they don't leap
out of the water
and transform
into spiders.
My dad is afraid
I will fall
into the Grand Canyon
and die.
That's the least
thing that worries me
about moving.

Meteor Shower
The pond
Is hungry
And the
Dark massive
Sky is aching
To kiss
The pussy
Willows
Wrapped
Around the
Whispering
Beam of light.
We came
To watch
The stars
Shoot and
Make our
Faces glow
Like two
Moons
waiting
For the cat
Tails to send
Something
Whispering inside
The curved
Slow
Ripples
Of night.
Ursa Major
Spoons
A large
Fish
And we
Are dripping,
Rapid,
Obedient, one.
God's Bastard
We skipped rocks
across the pond
one day
and became best friends.
On the outside
you were just a white kid
like me.
Some people thought we were twins.
I was confused when
you told me you were Japanese.
I hadn't yet understood
the difference between
nationality and ethnicity.
I cinched my eyes closed
with my fingers
and made ching chong sounds
to show you that I understood.
You opened your eyes wide apart
with your fingers
and in a slow, lazy voice
said, "Hi, I am A-mer-i-can."
We were inseparable.
Your father taught me
what it meant to be Christian.
Your mom was an angel,
she literally played the harp.
I understood God for the first time
and truly loved Jesus.
I think my heart
was even moved by your sister.
There were always fish
dancing in and out
of photographs.
(Love can be so abrupt)
We caught a bluegill
in the pond
one day
and the next day you were gone
like one of those rocks
skipping out of my life,
like one
of those bluegill.
Won't someone throw me a line.

Summer Home
Why does the
mini van look so little?
A crow attacks an eagle.
There are smaller birds
screaming in the distance,
in the tops of trees
like frightened children.
Ducks panic-waddle
in the skeletal waste of corn.
What are they running from?
Why do they all
fly back again in spring?

Giddyup
Who's
the giggly-horse?
The tickly-rib horse?
Rub your back
in the snow.
Hooves
meet the sky.
That cloud
has sweet abs.
Whistlin'
like a wolf-kettle.
I am Thunder Hoof!

Mishawaka, IN
The girl at the gas station lies
to me because she doesn't
want to hurt my feelings.
She's not really as happy
as she says she is.
She used to hum
with the fluorescent lights
and her eyes would twinkle.
Now the octane
is lower, unleaded.
Long nights of service,
the customers are numb.
A clock reaches for the exit.
Even the birds
wish that winter was over.

333.33333333333333
Alien wolf cry and the tree covers murder. In the third density, come out of the snail's Persian eye form. Mammoth dogs, the ghost king, reptilian anatomy. Toxic creatures face-off, faces come off, coyotes cartwheel out of the ocean, obnoxious. The Nons tongue mouth through the desert, crawling. Category: alien body, pea-pod body. A million reptiles catapult, hammer-hungry. Desert methuselah, secrete out the flesh, unholy. Slaughtered babies. In the bone cauldron, in the bone cauldron the sound of a star map, constellation night and metathesis.
1989
In the time
of the TVthe moon
is an armless wonder,
in blackface.
The girl
with everything
is in
your mouth,
the sound
of caterpillars
and real
human freaks.
Fork
your brains out.
Get your
throat
ejected
with a snake.
The greatest
show on Earth.

Glia
Your eyes,
the most
painful
old tree.
Reach your
branch
into my
solar plexus.
Charm
your body
into
an acorn.
Wrap your
back along
the hot
white solar
eclipse.
Drink
from my
nervous
system's
ocean
and expand
into
decades.

Hey Cloud!
look in
that direction
eyes
discover lips
suddenly
older
eyes
look back
(suddenly)
eyes
like you
skin
like you
hair
like sky
sky
turned burial

The Cruelest
to a landfill.
With each file
I open,
I tear myself
open.
The smell
of old newspapers,
and I can feel
the distance
growing between us.
Space is
as dead as fall.
Winter's
ocean's ebbing.
A hollow
chocolate bunny.
chocolate bunny.

Questions
My favorite
actress is
the wanderer
in you.
My favorite
flower is
walking about
the house.
My favorite
animal will
be home
soon.
This weekend
and I went
our separate
ways.

Horse
Of chorus
I like
the way
you come
out
of my
forehead.
And for
a moment,
I can feel
the hoof
meat.
I can
feel
the hoof
meat jiggle.

Weird Winter
The sound
of helicopters:
and crows
blacken the sky.
March is
flesh animated.
October is
back from the dead.
Saturn's snow
is heaving.

Wonder
I threw bread
out to the birds
today.
Just the ass-
end of a shitty
loaf of white.
Every few minutes
or so I walk
to the kitchen
window to see
if the birds
have come,
but the birds
never come.
The birds
never came
to eat my
ass-loaf.
Can I
blame them.
*
I remember
when I was
a kid,
I used to
throw bread out
to the birds.
They would always
eat my ass-loaf, then.

Nobody's Hungry
I creep out
the oven,
my skin
like tulips
before
it's even spring.
The deer
is poking out
of my spinal cord.
One eye
out the crust-layer.
animals
really pop
my cork.
I 180 out
of my eye rocketry.
This is not my
body banging
at the little window.
I lost my intuition
to the skeletal
system.
